The original TALOS of Greek mythology was created at the behest of Zeus. His purpose was to protect Zeus’ beautiful love Europa while she was subjected to residing on the island of Crete.
TALOS was to run from the Palace of Phaestos protecting the island from any invasions. He would circle the island’s shores three times daily guarding the goddess Europa from any harm.
Portrayed on the first coins of Phaestos in the 4th century BCE, today known as Crete, TALOS was rendered as a strong, larger than life youthful figure with wings. The wings symbolizing his speed and movement. As TALOS was created by Hephaestus, blacksmith to the gods, he is known as the first mechanical being and hence his inspiration behind TALOS Watches today.
